After your goal date passes, the card re-locks automatically within 48 hours. Any leftover balance rolls forward and Hold-It asks: "Want to Hold your next dream?" Your card does not expire — it stays in your wallet, waiting for the next goal you set.

Hold-It is not a bank, credit union, or licensed financial institution. The behavioral locks and rules are the product — your funds are always held in FDIC-insured accounts through our banking partner, never by Hold-It directly. We add the discipline layer. First use — always free. Funds release to your account instantly. No receipt, no review, no fee. This is your one free pass per rolling window (12 months for Scout, 6 for Voyager, 4 for Nomad, 3 for Legend).

After your first use, Hold-It puts you in control of how you handle it:

Submit a Receipt: Funds release immediately. Upload your receipt within 72 hours. If our AI confirms a genuine emergency — car repair, medical bill, emergency home repair — the fee is waived and your streak is protected. If it doesn't qualify, the fee applies. Either way you'll know within 72 hours.

Pay & Release: Need it now with no questions asked. Pay the applicable fee ($1 / $10 / $25 based on how many times you've used it) and your money releases instantly.

Hold-It never leaves you stranded in a real emergency.

Hold-It uses Plaid for bank linking — a SOC2 compliant, AES-256 encrypted, bank-grade integration used by thousands of financial apps. Your banking credentials are never stored by Hold-It. Card issuance is handled by Marqeta, a licensed card program manager. KYC identity verification is handled by Stripe Identity. Every layer of your financial data is handled by regulated, audited partners.

Soft Lock — Your balance is hidden in a sub-menu. Out of sight, out of mind. The lowest friction option for goals that need a gentle nudge.

Medium Lock — Your Savings Buddy gets notified the moment a withdrawal is attempted. Social accountability without an awkward conversation.
